Always Choose The High Ground:
n almost every map, you'll notice there's some high ground you can
use to your advantage. It's worth crouching and sneaking into position
before engaging in combat as often as possible. You'll have a better
vantage point and enemies will be much more likely to miss with ranged
attacks.
Sometimes it won't make much of a difference, like when fighting
specters that ignore standard physics, but it's a good idea to assemble
your party in an advantageous spot for the long haul instead of
haphazardly leaping into a fight without any preparation.
Sell Your Valuables:
--------------------
You'll come across all sorts of gems, books, and other treasures in your
travels. While it's a good idea to hold onto them all for a bit, eventually
you'll need to let them go. Vendors won't haggle with you, and so you'll
need to sell the items for gold.
Don't worry, there's plenty of loot to go around. Hold onto the rarer
items of course, like magic items you may want to identify later, but
extra weapons and armor can be exchanged for gold, which can then be
exchanged for potions, rations, and better equipment. Let's not hold
onto everything until the final boss "just in case", shall we?
Short Rest:
-----------
At anytime in a safe place, your party can take a Short Rest. During a Short
Rest, heroes can regain some uses of specific abilities and powers, and spend
Hit Dice to recover Hit Points.
Heroes have as many maximum Hit Dice as their levels. Spending a Hit Dice
heals heroes by the number rolled + their Constitution modifier.
Detection Gauge:
----------------
Thus, an enemy has wandered into your Noise Ring. Now the Detection Gauge
appears. This is the enemy's growing suspicion and movement towards discovering
you. If you remain stationary, the gauge will rapidly fill, and stealth will
be broken. Detection acquired. To maintain stealth, movement is required.
Rearrange the party, use cover, break line of sight.
This is a dynamic stealth mini-game whenever you have hostiles nearby. The
fill rate of the gauge is based on your party's mean Stealth skill (the higher
-> the better) compared to the enemy's Perception skill (the higher the enemy's
Perception, the quicker the fill). Secondly, note light sources. Torches, light
spells, etc., significantly increase your visibility and accelerate detection.
Darkness is your ally when stealth is involved.
