* R1 to block, R1 when you get hit to TP behind him, O for perception and
O as late as possible to do the sonic sway, you can also press O while you
are on guard.
* Note that the sonic sway allows you to drain the opponent’s KI too.
* You won’t be able to do all this if you’re caught in a combo from behind
as well.
* And to stop a combo in the back, or even from the front, you can L3
forward at the same time as square when the attack hits you.
* This is the mechanic that I find the hardest to master but when an idiot
spams you with sparking combos it feels really funny to him.
* You can also press R3 when you take a blow but your opponent can counter
with perception .
* You probably know all this if you’ve done the tutorials with Piccolo.
* Now you should just practice getting the timings right.
* I especially advise you not to spam R1 when you’re in a combo because
it could prevent you from having the right timing.
* TP with R1 works on almost everything, hits, blasts, specs (whether melee
or beam) and even ults.
* For the attack I advise you to look at the different combos of the
characters, you have four main ones but some cannot be done by everyone.
* Focus on a character you want to play and learn their combos.
* Square Triangle, Square x2 Triangle, Square x3 Triangle and Square x4
Triangle.
* There is the one that stuns, the one that returns, the one that does a
triple hit, and the one with the kikoah cannon.
* Some characters don’t have all four and can do one or two in several
ways.
* These combos are much better than just spamming squares because they
allow you to continue to combo behind.
* Square spam combo is easily countered if the guy in front knows how to
time his R1.
* Note that you can maintain the triangles of these combos and this can
break your opponent’s guard.
* And after these combos you can follow up with a finisher of the combo,
for example the one that turns your opponent over you can generally add a
triangle followed by a square to turn him over again.
and add a kikoah canon.
* This throws your opponent, you can then follow it by pressing X to chain
with another combo.
* Don’t hesitate to use your specs when the guy is stunned or after having
thrown him.
* If you use them while he is in a normal state it is too easily countered
and you will waste KI.
* You can go to training to test your combos and also your defense, adjust
the AI’s HP bar so that it doesn’t lose any like that you won’t restart the
match 50 times.
* You can dash R2 X + R2 X when you are far away to get behind him, when you
are close to him you can X by putting L3 on one side to move your character,
and there is also a combo that forces the opponent to turn around.
* The stun lasts quite a long time and if you master your controller you can
easily do it.
Guide to Z Burst Dash Counter Techs:
------------------------------------
Written by Liz
You’ll never have Z Burst happen to you again!
-=Sidestep=-
While sidestepping can work, the main limitation is that it forces you to wait
for the opponent’s Z Burst Dash. You can’t take actions like charging ki,
charging blasts, or activating Sparking while waiting, because if you do, you’ll
get hit by the Z Burst Dash. This makes sidestepping risky, as it leaves you
passive and vulnerable if you mistime it.
-=Ki Blasts=-
Similar to sidestepping, relying on ki blasts also forces you to wait for the Z
Burst Dash to happen. You can’t charge ki, use blasts, or activate Sparking while
waiting to counter with a ki blast, as doing so leaves you open to getting hit
by the Z Burst Dash. Additionally, ki blasts do not work if your opponent Z Burst
Dashes with Sparking activated, further limiting your options. This reactive
approach reduces your ability to maintain pressure and forces you into a more
defensive position.
-=Common Misconceptions=-
Many tips and videos suggest ki blasts or sidesteps as general counters, but
both strategies rely on waiting for the opponent’s Z Burst Dash, making them
less reliable for maintaining pressure.
-=Better Strategies=-
The most consistent strategy that lets you pressure your opponent and forces
them to Z Burst Dash is ki charging. When you charge ki, your opponent has to
react—either by firing blasts at you or trying to catch you off guard. Charging
ki while preparing to enter Sparking mode can make them panic and Z Burst Dash
early. If your opponent has Sparking activated, they often want to close in with
a Z Burst Dash.
Here’s why ki charging is effective: while in the charging animation, you can’t
sidestep or blast if someone attempt to Z Burst Dash you, but a simple dash input
(Dragon Dash) will trigger a Z Burst clash, canceling their Z Burst Dash and
wasting their Sparking timer. You don’t have to Z Burst Dash yourself—just dash
once during ki charging to force the clash.
Another option is to react by burst ascending or descending. If the opponent is
mashing attacks right out of their dash, they’ll attack the space you were in,
and their forward momentum will carry them past you. By ascending or descending,
you can potentially position yourself behind them, ready to attack their back
while they’re left vulnerable.
Note: Sidestepping can be highly rewarding but is less consistent compared to
the safer options mentioned above.
If you have 2 skill points and lose the clash, you can immediately use a revenge
counter, stopping them from following up with ultimates or supers and potentially
canceling it altogether.
-=Speed Clash Mini-Game Tips=-
There are two phases to the Z Burst clash:
* Phase #1: A circle closes in—be patient and press the button right when the
circle is almost fully closed. This timing is crucial for winning the clash.
* Phase #2: This is a button-mashing phase. You don’t need to mash super fast—
just quick enough. The first phase matters more in deciding the outcome.
