Doom: The Dark Ages Cheats

Doom: The Dark Ages

Cheat Codes:
------------
Submitted by: David K.

-= No built-in cheat codes =-
Doom: The Dark Ages has no Doom Eternal-style collectible floppy-disk cheats and no
retail cheat-password menu. Tune difficulty modifiers and Combat Assistance in-game,
or unlock the developer console on PC (see Console Commands below).

Hints and Tips:
---------------
-= Built-in difficulty and assistance =-
* Start a new save to pick a difficulty preset, Combat Assistance, and Gameplay
Modifiers. Reopen Pause Menu - Settings to tweak them mid-campaign.
* Gameplay Modifiers include Damage to Player, Damage to Demons, Enemy Aggression,
Game Speed, Daze Duration, Enemy Projectile Speed, and Resource Values (pickup
  health, armor, and ammo yields).
* For an easy run, lower Damage to Player and raise Damage to Demons and Resource
Values. Community tests report very high Damage to Demons can one-shot bosses.
* Combat Assistance: widen Parry Window, enable Enhanced Targeting (auto-aim help),
and enable Empowered Attacks (easier staggers). Adjust Daze Duration for longer
  Glory Strike windows.
* PC players can also enable Auto Sprint, Shield Seek (auto shield targeting while
learning), and Falter/Daze indicators to spot staggered enemies.

-= Parry and shield play =-
* Block with the Shield Saw (right-click on PC). Parry within the first frames of a
  parryable attack to deflect it.
* Always try to parry green projectiles, as doing so will usually take out surrounding
demons as well as the demon firing them. Later on, parrying projectiles will also
activate your shield rune for a few additional kills.
* Prioritize Sentinel Shrine shield upgrades Retaliation (larger parry shockwave,
Heavy Falter on nearby demons) and Steadfast (faster shield recovery after a broken
  guard).
* Use shield charge to escape from dangerous situations. If you do find yourself
getting overwhelmed, a well-placed shield charge can instantly take you to safety
and give you a few moments to regroup.

-= Ammo, targets, and weapons =-
* Keep an eye on ammo and be sure not to waste it on fodder demons. If you constantly
find yourself running out of ammo, consider switching Resource Values to high in the
  Difficulty Modifiers menu.
* Try to take out the bigger demons first, particularly in more open areas where there
are a lot of enemies around. If you let yourself get surrounded by several large
demons, you're going to have a bad time.
* Understand how all of the weapon upgrades work. Many of them have the potential to
deal powerful secondary damage, but will need to be triggered in a very specific way
  before they can take effect.

-= Healing and armor pickups =-
* Although slaughtering enemies is a good way to get heals during combat, the best way
to keep yourself alive is to identify the strong healing items in the area first and
  fight around them.
* Some of the healing items on the map often respawn every minute or so, which can be
a great way to heal yourself when taking many hits constantly.
* If you see any complete heals around you, make sure to fight near them so that you
can jump and pick them up when you are near death.

-= Glory Strikes and flow =-
* Glory Strikes and executions no longer lock you into long synced animations; finish
dazed enemies on the fly to keep momentum between guns, shield, and melee.
* Chain shield blocks, melee weapons (flail, gauntlet, mace), and guns instead of
  Eternal-style weapon hotkey juggling.

Console Commands (PC Mods):
---------------------------
The retail PC build ships with a locked developer console. Unlock it with a PC tool or
mod, then press ~ (tilde) in-game.

-= How to unlock =-
* TDAUnlocker (GitHub releases): install .NET 6 Desktop Runtime, extract the zip,
launch DOOM: The Dark Ages, run TDAUnlocker.exe, and click Unlock Console Commands.
Optional auto-unlock on startup. Optional "Replace god with noclip" remaps god to
noclip; use g_permaGodMode 1 if you still need invulnerability.
* Console Unlocker mod (Nexus Mods): place version.dll next to DOOMTheDarkAges.exe in
your Steam or Xbox PC install folder. Type listCvars in the console; roughly 8000
variables appear when the mod works (about 300 when locked).
* Back up saves before experimenting. Game updates can break unlockers until they are
  patched.
