Diablo Immortal
Hints and Tips:
---------------
Submitted by: David K.
Diablo Immortal is an always-online free-to-play action RPG for PC (Windows, through
the Battle.net app) and mobile, with shared cross-play and cross-progression between
both. Power comes from your gear, Legendary Gems, Paragon trees, and daily activities,
so the tips below focus on leveling fast, raising Combat Rating, and surviving the
endgame.
-= Level up fast past level gates =-
While playing through the campaign you reach a certain point where the story will not
continue until you hit a required level. You will see a "Level Required" number you
must reach in order to proceed, and that is where the grinding starts. It first bites
around level 35, and doing it the slow way can eat about 2 hours, so use these faster
routes instead. Open the Codex and check the Guide tab: turn in everything you have
already completed, since each finished zone gives you a couple of things worth a chunk
of experience that also feed Battle Points into your Battle Pass. Another route is
going all the way down to Westmarch and, inside the Palace Courtyard, using the Bounty
Board. You can grab bounties 4 at a time, up to a maximum 8 per day, and they hand out
significant experience that actually scales to your level. This is doable, but the
quests might repeat themself after a while and turn grindy. If you are stuck and
cannot unbridge the leveling gap, the much better and simple solution is the Elder
Rift.
-= Elder Rift XP farming trick =-
Head to the Elder Rift Entrance in Westmarch and you can basically farm the bonus
experience these rifts provide forever. Crests are optional: slotting a Legendary or
Rare Crest before you enter improves everything related to the rift rewards and is the
only way to guarantee Legendary Gem drops, but you can still finish a rift without
one. To maximize your experience income, not waste your time, and follow a simple
strategy, do not fight all the way to the Rift Guardian. Instead watch the minimap in
the top- right corner, where specially marked enemies show up (blue on the minimap)
and drop Experience Globes. Hunt only those marked enemies, grab the globes for the
temporary boost, and ignore the rest. Because rifts are seeded, you can re-run them
until you learn where these enemies spawn, the quickest and easiest experience in the
game.
-= Battle Pass and the Codex =-
The Battle Pass is the backbone of leveling, both from 1 to 60 and deep into Paragon.
You raise it by earning Battle Points, and the Codex lists every activity that grants
them. The Guide missions in particular are built to teach the game and pay bonus
experience on completion, so clear them early. Beyond Guide tasks, finish your daily
Codex objectives, Conquest entries, and exploration achievements every day; the points
compound into large experience injections each time the pass ranks up. There is a
weekly Battle Point cap, but you will rarely touch it before hitting level 60.
-= Combat Rating is your power score =-
Combat Rating, also shown as the Offense and Defense Rating, is the single number that
sums up your total power. If your rating sits below the requirement for an area,
dungeon, or raid, you take heavy damage penalties or are locked out entirely. Check it
under More Attributes on your character sheet, or in the Codex under the Conquest tab,
where hitting milestones rewards Hilts. You raise it four main ways: equip and upgrade
better gear (Legendary pieces give the best stats and gem slots), socket and rank
Legendary Gems for Resonance, beat Helliquary bosses to upgrade the Helliquary for
passive bonuses, and gain Paragon levels. If your rating lags behind your character
level, push Challenge Rifts to improve the quality of gear that drops for you.
-= Legendary Gems and Crests =-
Legendary Gems are your biggest source of power. They socket only into primary gear
and you can equip up to six at once, across main hand, off-hand, helm, chest,
shoulders, and pants. They come in 1-star, 2-star, and 5-star grades; a 5-star gem
drops with a random 2 to 5 stars, and more stars means stronger bonuses. Every gem
unlocks an extra effect at rank 3 and bonus Magic Find at rank 5, and they cap at rank
10, after which a maxed gem can awaken a Legendary item. The cleanest way to get them
is to run Elder Rifts with a Legendary Crest, which guarantees a gem; Rare Crests give
a chance. You can also craft gems from Runes at the Apprentice Jeweler, or buy them
from other players on the Marketplace with Platinum. Resist maxing cheap 1-star gems
early, since that Gem Power is better saved for 2-star and 5-star ranks.
-= Paragon trees after level 60 =-
At level 60 your experience stops raising your character level and starts feeding
Paragon levels instead, each granting one Paragon Point. Points go into talent trees
that hold two node types: Persistent Attributes (circles) that always apply, and
Specialization Skills (squares) that only work while that tree is the active one. You
can have just one tree active at a time. Survivor (defense) and Vanquisher (offense)
unlock at Paragon 1, Treasure Hunter (gold, Magic Find, experience) at Paragon 50,
Gladiator (PvP) at Paragon 100, and Soldier and Mastermind at Paragon 150. Points
cannot be reset, so plan ahead and pour your first investments into a single tree that
matches your class and goal rather than spreading them thin.
-= Reforge Stones and Family bonuses =-
Upgrading a Legendary item to ranks 6, 11, and 16 grants a random bonus attribute each
time, and Reforge Stones let you reroll those attributes (only rank 6 and above can be
reforged). A generic Reforge Stone pulls from the entire attribute pool, roughly a 1
in 35 chance for a specific result. A Family Reforge Stone narrows the roll to one
family (Wildfire, Ravager, Barrier, Tremor, Vengeance, or Jolt) for about a 1 in 5
chance. The payoff is the Family Set Bonus, which activates when all three bonus
attributes on one item belong to the same family. Reforge at any Blacksmith, where you
can keep the old attribute or accept the new one (the stone is spent either way). Buy
generic stones from the Hilts Trader, capped at eight per week; family stones come
from the shop or the Platinum market, and some stones drop from the Battle Pass.
-= Hilts and the Hilts Trader =-
Hilts are a reward currency you spend with Lieutenant Fizriah, the Hilts Trader in the
northeast of Westmarch near the Immortal Overlook waypoint, who unlocks through the
campaign at around level 26 to 30. They never drop from monsters or bosses. You earn
them from Codex Conquest and Achievement tasks, Battle Pass rewards, your First Kill
of the Day, Challenge Rift and leaderboard ranks, raising your Combat Rating, and
faction work like Vault Raids and the Rite of Exile. Most of his stock has daily,
weekly, or monthly purchase limits, so spend carefully: the single most valuable buy
is the monthly Legendary Crest, and joining the Immortals unlocks a second monthly
Legendary Crest in a faction-only tab.
-= Helliquary raids =-
The Helliquary is an 8-player cooperative raid system that unlocks around level 41 but
matters most once you hit 60. Defeating a Helliquary boss gives Demonic Remains for
permanent attribute bonuses plus Scoria, which Charsi the Blacksmith refines into
Hellfire Scoria for a small gold fee; spend that to upgrade the Helliquary itself for
passive Combat Rating. Every boss lists a required Combat Rating before you can create
or join a group, and no amount of power lets you solo one. Clearing a Helliquary raid
weekly with your Warband also hands every member an Eternal Legendary Crest Voucher,
worth a discounted Eternal Legendary Crest from the Crest merchant.
-= Classes and class change =-
The game launched with six classes: Barbarian, Crusader, Demon Hunter, Monk,
Necromancer, and Wizard, with the Blood Knight, Tempest, and Druid added later. There
are no skill trees while leveling; each level automatically unlocks new abilities, and
you slot three skills plus a basic attack and an ultimate. For a first character the
Barbarian (tanky melee with self-healing), Necromancer (summons that soak damage), and
Crusader (durable jack-of-all-trades with ranged and mounted options) are the most
forgiving, while the Wizard is a glass cannon with the highest area damage. Because
all classes clear the campaign fine, pick the playstyle you enjoy. If you change your
mind, the class-change feature keeps your full progress, including Paragon level and
items, and even hands you a fresh gear set, though you still have to farm new gems and
upgrades.
-= Combat and survival basics =-
There is no mana, rage, or focus meter, so fire your skills constantly; most cooldowns
are short and you can front-load huge damage at the start of a fight. Movement keeps
you alive: watch for the telegraphs under area attacks and dash in and out rather than
standing in them. You carry three health potions that each restore 60 percent of your
health on a 15-second cooldown, while the red health orbs that enemies drop can be
grabbed back to back, so save potions and lean on orbs in long fights. Run dungeons in
a party for better rewards and safer clears. Salvage gear you do not need at a
Blacksmith for crafting materials, turn on auto pick-up so nothing is missed, and when
stats overwhelm you simply equip whatever shows a green upgrade arrow. Upgrade gear
freely instead of hoarding, since ranks and socketed gems transfer to new items at no
loss.
-= PC controls and controller =-
On PC the default keyboard and mouse setup works well: move with WASD or click to
move, and aim skills with the mouse. Controllers are supported on PC across many wired
and Bluetooth pads, including Xbox, PlayStation DualSense and DualShock, Nintendo
Switch Pro, and Logitech F710 and F510, but pad input on PC has long been buggy and
laggy. If yours stutters, uncap the frame rate and turn off Vertical Sync in the
graphics settings, and confirm your pad is on the supported list. Menu navigation is
still smoothest with mouse and keyboard. Cross-progression means you can keep the same
character moving between PC at home and your phone on the go.
-= Wizard PvP build (DOT freeze) =-
This community Wizard PvP setup comes in two flavors, one with a teleport skill and
one without. For armor, run either 4-piece Grace with 4-piece Baron, or 4-piece Grace
with 2-piece Baron and 2-piece Banquet. The core idea is a damage-over-time crowd-
control freeze build, so you want Everlasting/Viper or Viper/Bile in the mix to apply
the DOT to players, and the slow-time helm Ephemeral to speed up how fast those DOTs
tick. The 2-piece Baron set extends DOT duration. The real goal is to trigger the
Grace 4pc bonus on enemy players: it lands an extra hit that does solid damage and
cancels their healing if it connects. Gems like Starfire and Maw of the Deep can even
proc off-screen with this setup. There are also different fire-based Metrou builds
too, but I prefer the ice version for more crowd control.
Solutions:
----------
-= Join the Shadows faction =-
1. Push the main questline until you reach Bilefen and the Cycle of Strife unlocks.
2. Go to the Tavern in Westmarch and talk to the Mysterious Patron to enter the Shadow
Lottery during its set daily times (around 12 p.m., 6 p.m., and 9 p.m. on your
server).
3. If you win the lottery, beat the three Ancient Champions in the back room to
receive Akeba's Signet and join the Shadows.
4. Operate from the Court of Whispers, where new daily activities unlock as your
faction rank rises. Win the lottery again to use Akeba's Signet and invite others
into your Dark Clan.
-= Cycle of Strife: become an Immortal =-
1. As a Shadow, join or build a Dark Clan and grind Marks through Contracts, the Path
of Blood, and Vault Raids to climb the clan rankings.
2. Reach the top 10 Dark Clans to qualify for the weekly Rite of Exile.
3. Fight the Rite of Exile as ten simultaneous 8v8 battles; the Shadows must win 6 of
them to overthrow the Immortals, who only need 5 to hold their reign.
4. If the Shadows win, face the Challenge of the Immortal: 30 Shadows against a single
buffed Immortal raid boss. Win it and the top Dark Clan becomes the new Immortals.
-= Start PvP in the Battleground =-
1. Reach the level and quest point where the Battleground opens.
2. Travel to the Immortal Overlook in Westmarch to queue.
3. Play the 8v8 objective match: attackers push to destroy the Ancient Heart while
defenders protect it.
4. Win matches to raise your Battleground rating, which also feeds Hilts and Paragon
experience.
-= Daily routine for fast power =-
1. Claim your First Kill of the Day and the free daily shop rewards first; they cost
almost no time.
2. Clear your 8 bounties, collecting Monstrous Essence as you go and turning it in at
a Horadric Altar each time you hit 10.
3. Finish your Battle Pass and Codex Guide tasks for Battle Points and bonus
experience.
4. Run Elder Rifts, using any Legendary or Rare Crests on the highest difficulty you
can clear quickly.
5. Each week, kill the Helliquary boss with your Warband and complete your Challenge
Rifts for leaderboard rewards.
-= Upgrade gear efficiently =-
1. Equip anything that shows a green upgrade arrow and salvage the rest at a
Blacksmith for materials.
2. Pour upgrade materials into your Legendary primary gear rather than hoarding them.
3. When a better item drops, use Transfer to move ranks and socketed gems across for
free.
4. Once a piece reaches rank 6, reforge its bonus attributes, aiming for one Family
for the Family Set Bonus.
5. Socket your best Legendary Gems into primary gear and rank them toward 10 to awaken
the item later.
