Ideas that will get you started so you don't waste time.
-=Basics=-
* You’re going to find a ton of info in the Traveller’s Rest Wiki.
* Here are some key points to keep in mind as you get started:
* Your main milestones are going to be the levels, primarily Level
6 when you can hire staff and Level 8 when you can begin renting
rooms.
* When you get to Level 6 you can hire a bartender to serve food
and drinks, as well as a barback to clean the tables. You will
still need to be near to calm down unruly customers, however.
* At Level 10 you can open the cellar.
* Remember to turn the fireplace on each night at 7 PM or the
guests get chilly and leave in a huff.
-=Money and Fuel=-
* The money comes in three types and each has a ratio of 100:1, so
you’ll need 100 coppers to get 1 silver and 100 silver to get 1 gold.
* Your main goal with money is going to be saving up 30 gold to get
your second fermentation machine, which will significantly increase
the amount of beer and wine you can produce. This is the most time-
intensive product to produce, so having two of these should be a
primary goal from early on. Don’t waste money!
* Each day you’ll find 12 logs outside as well as 10 sticks. This is
the tavern screen and the farming screen combined. This gives you a
total of 22 wood/sticks to use for fuel each day. The goal is to not
buy too much coal so you can save up for that second fermentation
machine.
-=Renting Rooms=-
* Once you reach Level 8 you can begin renting out rooms. It costs 1
gold to open up two rooms, but then you’ll need to buy a bed, small
table, small bench, and light for each before you can rent them.
* The real goal is to get the quality of each room as close to 100 as
you can so you can charge the highest amount. To do this, stock each
room with rugs, pictures, swords, cacti, and bigger tables/benches.
* That’s it for now. Thanks for reading!
Early Game Money Tips:
----------------------
On one of the info screens (hit t on the keyboard and its on one of
those tabs) you will see your max occupancy. Try and build tables to be
able to seat that many at once.
That’s always a good idea, max seating and no employees. You need to
plant barley and bitter hops early, collect the free fruit from the
trees South of the NPC farm and at the beach to make Ale and age it to
the first aging level (or max level if you can) and that 3+ silver per
customer makes a big difference. Then you want strawberries, blueberries
and wild berries for making that ale once the tree fruit runs out
(You only need 1-2 plants of each strawberries and blueberries for this
early).
The easiest food to make is seafood using mussels from the West side of
the beach, or any seafood you find.
I would ignore fishing, and not do too much farming, until you get more
established (Try to save silver so you can do one big planting of
everything you need to grow in spring on the 3rd week of spring).
Eventually, early game, you want to end up with hundreds of ale aging while
you open every day and serve all the food and ale you have, and then keep
serving water. Keep making ale every 6 hours and aging it.
After that, money coming in goes up fast if you can properly upgrade and
increase everything. It’s important to collect resources and craft so you
can eventually start making distillery products at level 11 (which sell
for 5-20 silver each depending on various factors).
When you level up the tavern, go to the altar in the North where you buy
recipes and try to find some recipes worth 5+ silver each that you can
make with what you have. Around level 10 is when that becomes much easier.
The mid game goal is 50+ customers, no employees (if you can manage it)
and you’re serving 5-15 silver drinks and 5-10 silver meals to everyone.
How to Farm Grass:
------------------
I know a lot of people end up running out of grass after making hay and
seafood traps.
* To farm for grass, leave a large section of your tavern outdoors free
of everything (including trees).
* Once it is overgrown enough (70% filled out), you can remove about half
of all grass that is there in patches.
* You need to run around and remove bits here and there without clearing
a section. The next day, the grass you left behind will fill back in.
* You can do this again daily or every couple days.
How to Make My Cat Happy:
-------------------------
Just a note: the cat is just for an achievement and personal fun, it doesn’t
really do anything other than look pretty. It does also take quite a bit of
time in-game so keep at it every single day.
-=Straight from the dev=-
The cat only requires three things – Water, Bed and Pets.
However, due to bugs, make sure you do this:
* Pet the cat before 13:00.
* Fill water bowl before 13:00 (it’ll drink then).
* If the cat gets stuck in any way (like behind a closed door) or it just
doesn’t drink the water, then you will lose hearts for this.
-=List of Some Known Bugs=-
* Moving the bed while the cat is on it during construction/decoration mode.
* Placing the cat bed in a spot that blocks the cat from leaving (it leaves
from the north side of the bed, so if that’s blocked, the cat can’t leave).
* Sometimes gets stuck bothering the bird.
* Sometimes disappears (sometimes for a few in-game days).
* Gets in weird places (windows, walls, etc).
* Doesn’t always drink the water at 13:00.
