One Way To Die Cheats

One Way To Die

Hints and Tips:
---------------
Submitted by: David K.

-= Current Steam Build and the Announced Overhaul =-
On Steam's public Windows branch, v5.3.1 is still the latest release. A later
graphical and multiplayer redesign has been announced, including the retirement of
Choose and Random, but it has not replaced the public build. If Steam receives a
newer public build, recheck mode and route behavior before relying on this file.

-= Unlock Choose and Random by Beating Story Mode =-
Start with Story Mode. Your first successful run unlocks the legacy Choose and Random
modes. Story gives you more decisions than the older modes, but its luck system can
still end a promising route. A strong sequence improves your odds rather than
guaranteeing survival.

-= Carry All Three Immunities on a Survival Run =-
Aspirin, Sandwich, and Gasoline are the three immunity items. Each blocks a group of
otherwise possible deaths for the current run. That makes the set valuable for
survival, but counterproductive when you are trying to expose every death result. The
route below follows the legacy page structure used by Choose and Random; Story Mode
has more choices and should not be treated as the same route.

1. From Page 1, take option 1 to reach Page 3.
2. On Page 3, take option 2. This gives Aspirin and moves you to Page 2.
3. On Page 2, take either option. This gives Sandwich and moves you to Page 5.
4. On Page 5, take option 2 or 3 to reach Page 6. Then take either Page 6 option;
   that choice gives Gasoline and moves you to Page 7.

Legacy item locations are Sandwich on Page 2, Aspirin on Page 3, and Gasoline on
Page 6. Confirm that each immunity appears before relying on it later in the run.

-= Hunt Missing Deaths by Page, Not by an Old Total =-
Version 5.3 changed how unique deaths are calculated and how local saves are handled,
so fixed death totals from older material are not a safe cleanup target. Start with
the in-game Statistics view, but do not assume a single zero row identifies the
missing death when the total and individual rows disagree. Back up the save, identify
the likely route page, and replay its possible outcomes instead of deleting progress
just to force the counters to agree.

-= Do Not Carry Immunities into a Death-Farming Pass =-
A death-hunting route and a survival route have opposite priorities. If a page still
has unexplored results, leave the relevant immunity behind. After you have cleared
the ordinary deaths, collect all three immunities for a safer win attempt.

Game Modes and Sabotage:
------------------------
-= Story, Choose, and Random =-
* Story Mode: the normal starting mode. It uses story choices plus a luck mechanic
  that can close off later survival options.
* Choose Mode: unlocked after a Story Mode win. You choose the outcome number
  yourself, making it the most useful mode for targeted result cleanup.
* Random Mode: unlocked after a Story Mode win. The game selects the outcome for you,
  making it useful for variety but inefficient when targeting one missing result.

-= How Sabotage Changes a Run =-
Open Sabotage from the main menu to reach the server list, choose an available game,
and join it as the saboteur. The saboteur can set traps along the host's route. Use
Steam invites for direct friend play. If the public list is empty, invite a friend
instead. Ignore old guides that say you must win the Fun Park raffle to become the
saboteur; v5.0 replaced that access method. The HUD tracks saboteur trap kills and
broken traps, which distinguishes a Sabotage session from a normal Story run.

-= Deluxe Flashlight Reveals Saboteur Traps =-
The Deluxe Edition DLC unlocks the Flashlight from the start. Click it to reveal
placed Saboteur traps. The Flashlight has a three-second cooldown, and the saboteur
receives no notification when you use it. Revealing and disabling a trap are separate
actions; use the route's disable-trap choice when that option is available.

Seasonal Death Reference:
-------------------------
-= Halloween Deaths =-
Halloween adds one special death to each of the ten route pages. With Halloween mode
active, use this list to identify which page still needs its seasonal result.
* Page 1 - Bedroom: Fright
* Page 2 - Kitchen: Poison Candy
* Page 3 - Bathroom: Skeletons
* Page 4 - Front Door: Franklin Stein
* Page 5 - Driveway: Jack-o-lantern
* Page 6 - Gas Station: Lagoon Creature
* Page 7 - Highway To: Vampire
* Page 8 - Fun Park: Black Cat
* Page 9 - Highway From: Mummy
* Page 10 - Home: Man Wolf

-= X-Mas Deaths =-
X-Mas also adds one special death to each route page. Activate the holiday first,
then use the page list rather than repeating unrelated normal outcomes.
* Page 1 - Bedroom: Krampus
* Page 2 - Kitchen: Candy Cane
* Page 3 - Bathroom: The Present
* Page 4 - Front Door: X-Mas Lights
* Page 5 - Driveway: Reindeer Mob
* Page 6 - Gas Station: Santa Strangler
* Page 7 - Highway To: Snow Angel
* Page 8 - Fun Park: Carolers
* Page 9 - Highway From: X-Mas Tree
* Page 10 - Home: Frostly Snowman

Save and Statistics:
--------------------
-= Local Save Is the Primary Statistics Source =-
Since v5.3, the game loads statistics from its local save instead of querying Steam
by default. Steam data is consulted only when you deliberately use the Sync option.
This matters when a local total and an older Steam value disagree.

-= Back Up the Windows Save Before Syncing or Testing =-
On Windows, the Steam build stores game data in this folder:
%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Godot\app_userdata\One Way To Die
Save files use the *.bin pattern. Exit the game and copy the whole One Way To Die
folder before using Steam Sync, experimenting with the system clock, or replacing
local data. Keep the untouched copy until you have confirmed that Statistics still
shows the expected progress.

-= If Statistics and Individual Rows Disagree =-
Do not delete the local save just because a total and an individual death row look
inconsistent. Back up the folder first. In Choose or Random, use the legacy route map
below to replay the suspected page. In Story, follow the current choices instead of
forcing the legacy map onto that mode. Use Steam Sync only when you deliberately want
Steam statistics to affect the local state; v5.3 intentionally stopped pulling Steam
statistics automatically.

Secrets:
--------
-= Force Halloween or X-Mas Mode with the PC Clock =-
The public Steam build reads the local calendar for its holiday content. You can use
this even when the normal seasonal event is inactive.

1. Exit the game before changing the clock.
2. Set the Windows date to October 31 for Halloween or December 25 for X-Mas.
3. Launch the game and confirm that the matching holiday content is active before
   hunting the seasonal deaths.
4. When you finish, quit the game and restore the correct Windows date and time.

This only changes which seasonal results are available; Story, Choose, Random, and
Sabotage still use their normal rules.

Reference:
----------
-= Legacy Choose/Random Ten-Page Route Map =-
This compact map covers the legacy ten-page routing used by Choose and Random. The
numbers are the route choices shown on each page; a trap variant still leads to the
same destination unless the trap kills the run. Story Mode was added with more
choices in v5.0, so do not use this table as an exact Story walkthrough.
* Page 1: option 1 -> Page 3; option 2 -> Page 2; option 3 -> Page 4.
* Page 2: option 1 -> Page 5; option 2 -> Page 5.
* Page 3: option 1 -> Page 4; option 2 -> Page 2.
* Page 4: option 1 -> Page 2; option 2 -> Page 5; option 3 -> Page 6.
* Page 5: option 1 -> Page 7; option 2 -> Page 6; option 3 -> Page 6.
* Page 6: option 1 -> Page 7; option 2 -> Page 7.
* Page 7: option 1 -> Page 8; option 2 -> Page 8.
* Page 8: option 1 -> Page 9; option 2 -> Page 9.
* Page 9: option 1 -> Page 10; option 2 -> Page 10.
* Page 10: option 1 -> Page 1; option 2 -> Page 1.

-= Immunity Quick Lookup =-
* Sandwich - Page 2.
* Aspirin - Page 3.
* Gasoline - Page 6.

Collect the set for survival attempts; avoid the relevant item when you are
deliberately trying to expose a death that the immunity can cancel.
