Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred
Hints and Tips:
---------------
Submitted by: David K.
Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred is the second expansion, adding Skovos, Paladin and Warlock
classes, a level 70 cap, and a reworked Pit endgame. No dev-console cheats exist;
progression comes from Masterwork gear, Soul Shards, Runeshards, and Torment pushing.
-= The Pit rework in Lord of Hatred =-
The Pit is one of the most important activities in the game because it upgrades your
Glyphs and lets you test how far your current build can go. Lord of Hatred expands it
to five depth floors instead of two, with better floor generation so you are less
likely to get stuck on bad layouts. Almost every environment in the game can appear in
The Pit, including base-game zones, Vessel of Hatred, and Lord of Hatred areas.
Shrines now spawn at roughly even rates across runs, Treasure Goblins can appear for
big rewards at high tiers, bosses teleport directly onto you when the progress bar
fills instead of forcing a separate boss lair trek, and the boss pool now includes
Tower bosses for more variety than before.
-= Pit farming and Masterwork =-
Runs start at the Cerrigar obelisk in Scosglen and cost three Runeshards each; failed
runs do not refund the entry fee. You still have a fifteen-minute timer, but Lord of
Hatred spreads progress across up to five floors before the boss spawns on you when
the bar fills. Deaths shave thirty, sixty, or ninety seconds off the clock depending
on prior deaths on that run. Masterwork materials drop on clear: Obducite (ranks 1-4,
tiers 1-29), Ingolith (5-8, tiers 30-59), and Neathiron (9-12, tiers 60+). Each item
can reach Masterwork rank 12; the Occultist can reroll affixes without resetting
Masterwork rank, but resetting ranks does not refund mats. Cap armor and elemental
resistances before pushing tiers. Clearing Pit tier 10 still unlocks Torment I. Lord
of Hatred adds eight more Torment tiers (up to Torment 12) for late endgame. Finishing
with six or more minutes left can skip multiple Pit tiers in one run; speed only
matters after you can stay alive.
-= Runeshards and gold economy =-
Runeshards are the currency that opens The Pit. Stock them from Nightmare Dungeons,
Helltides, World Bosses, Legion Events, and Whispers before burning entries. Gold pays
for Tempering, Masterworking, and Occultist rerolls at scale; endgame Pit farming can
burn millions on a single item, so bank gold before long upgrade sessions. Lord of
Hatred also ships account-wide loot filters, Talisman set bonuses, and Horadric Cube
crafting so you spend less time sorting junk and more time feeding mats into gear.
-= Tempering before Masterwork =-
Fully Temper an item at the blacksmith before Masterworking it. Tempering adds two
affix slots from manuals; Masterworking then raises stats in twelve steps with a 25%
boost to one random affix at ranks 4, 8, and 12. Pit clears supply the unique mats;
convert higher-tier mats downward at the blacksmith if you need lower-tier Obducite,
but watch gold costs on bulk conversions.
-= Torment 12 and Echoing Hatred =-
Clear Pit tier 10 to unlock Torment I, then push through Lord of Hatred's eight added
Torment tiers for the hardest open-world scaling. Echoing Hatred is a hyper-rare
endgame event that throws endless enemy waves and scales loot to survival time; treat
it as a bonus chase after your Pit loop is stable, not a substitute for Masterwork
progression.
-= Warlock launch priorities =-
Start with the Legion Soul Shard if this is your first time with the class. It is the
most forgiving while you learn how Wrath and Dominance interact. Ritualist is the
second-best starter option. At level 15 go to Ked Bardu and complete the "Disciple of
the Forbidden" quest immediately. That unlocks early access to demon summoning
mechanics and your first Soul Shard choice. Willpower is your primary stat regardless
of build. After that prioritize Critical Hit Damage, Maximum Life, All Resistance, and
Cooldown Reduction. Do not chase raw damage stats before level 30 because
survivability matters more while you are still figuring out your resource management.
Always use Profane Sentinel, an Archfiend skill that applies Vulnerable to enemies. It
is a flat damage multiplier across everything else you do, and it works in every
build.
-= Wrath, Dominance, and Soul Shards =-
Wrath fuels hellfire and shadow spells; Dominance summons and commands demons. Balance
both instead of spamming only one side. Dominance lets you spend on several small
demons or one big demon instead of waiting on fixed cooldowns; pick based on the
fight. Think in sequences: summon, reposition or sacrifice, then detonate the payoff
skill. Four Soul Shards define your fantasy: Legion (demon swarms), Vanguard
(Metamorphosis and melee pressure), Mastermind (Shadowform control), and Ritualist
(hex and sacrifice bursts). Fragments unlock at level 30 to specialize further.
-= Active summons and defense =-
Treat demons as tools, not permanent pets. Reposition them, chain reactions between
skills, and sacrifice fodder when a bigger cast is ready. Use defensive cooldowns
early while you kite; Warlocks are not tanks, and Pit deaths hurt your timer hard.
-= Warlock build lanes =-
Common verified paths include fire AoE (Molten Bomb, Hell Fracture, Sigil of Chaos,
Nether Step, Metamorphosis), demon swarms (Command Fallen, Bombardment, Rampage, Sigil
of Summons, Tortured Wretch, Fiend of Abaddon), hex control (Doom, Umbral Chains,
Dread Claws, Dark Prison, Sigil of Subversion), and melee Demonform (Hellion Sting,
Tyrant's Grasp, Wall of Agony, Infernal Breath). Strong Lord of Hatred endgame lanes
also include a Minion swarm that feeds lesser demons into greater casts, a Dread Claws
shadow loop built around Doom hexes and mobile claw bursts, and a Tyrant's Grasp
brawler that pulls packs and clears fast for Pit farming.
-= Paladin basics =-
The Paladin pairs with the Warlock as Lord of Hatred's light-and-dark duo. Resolve
fuels auras and holy pressure while you hold lines with sword-and-shield melee. The
class rewards steady positioning and aura uptime more than burst windows, making it a
strong pick if you want a durable frontliner for Skovos bosses and Pit pushes without
managing demon resources. Pre-purchase grants early Paladin access; a free trial also
lets newcomers test the class before launch.
-= Paladin Resolve and Clash scaling =-
Endgame Paladin often stacks Resolve through Fortress, Seize Them, and Maximum Resolve
on Tempered gear, then feeds Clash for multiplicative damage. Keep Fortress uptime
high, hold Consecration for area pressure, and lean on aura skills that reset Fortress
through the Resplendence glyph. Aspect of Glynn's Anvil turns large Resolve stacks
into massive damage reduction, while Paingorger's Gauntlets and Shard of Verathiel
anchor Clash burst damage once Torment scaling kicks in.
-= Skovos travel and campaign pace =-
Lord of Hatred moves the story to Skovos, a Mediterranean-inspired region tied to the
Mephisto finale. Level cap rises to 70 with a slower early curve and faster late
levels so new skills matter longer. Use waypoints and campaign quests to unlock Skovos
hubs, then loop back to Sanctuary for Pit and Torment once the main arc opens endgame
systems like War Plans and the reworked skill trees.
-= Expansion systems to use =-
Lord of Hatred ships with an account-wide loot filter, expanded class skill trees
through level 70, Talisman set bonuses, Charms, Horadric Cube recipes, and
Tempering/Masterwork synergies that reward Pit farming. Use the Armory to swap Warlock
or Paladin builds without full respec friction, and lean on War Plans to queue bespoke
activity lists once the campaign is done.
Secrets:
--------
-= Night Terror amulet (Shadowform Warlock) =-
The Night Terror unique amulet adds four to six percent more Abyss damage per
Shadowform stack and doubles that bonus while stealthed. Farm Andariel in Hanged Man's
Hall (Kehjistan) from Torment I with the correct keys once Pit tier 10 unlocks
Torment. Slot it on Mastermind or hybrid Shadowform setups and keep Profane Sentinel
active so Vulnerable amplifies the amulet proc.
-= Pit Treasure Goblins and Tower bosses =-
Lord of Hatred lets Treasure Goblins spawn inside Pit runs for outsized drops at high
tiers, and Tower bosses can appear in the final encounter pool. Listen for the Goblin
jingle during floor clears and save burst cooldowns for the teleported boss when the
progress bar completes.
Solutions:
----------
-= Disciple of the Forbidden (level 15) =-
1. Hit level 15 on your Warlock and track the priority quest in Ked Bardu.
2. Speak with Hattar to start the binding chain across Sanctuary.
3. Bind Ae'grom, Laalish, and Abodian at the marked dungeon sites the quest sends you
through.
4. Equip a Soul Shard when the chain completes; Legion for learning, Ritualist as the
secondary starter option.
5. Return at level 30 to pick a Fragment that matches your chosen build lane.
-= Pit push checklist =-
1. Stock Runeshards from Nightmare Dungeons, Helltides, World Bosses, and Legion
Events before burning entries.
2. Masterwork key gear and roll armor plus elemental resistances before tier jumps.
3. On Lord of Hatred layouts, expect up to five floors before the boss teleports in;
stay mobile when the bar fills.
4. Prioritize staying alive over speed until deaths are zero; then push tier skips
with time remaining on the clock.
5. Bank Masterwork mats for full rank-12 gear before chasing Torment 12.
-= Night Terror farm loop (Shadowform Warlock) =-
1. Unlock Torment I through Pit tier 10 and craft Andariel keys from Beast in Ice and
Lord Zir drops.
2. Run Hanged Man's Hall in Scouring Sands (Kehjistan) on Torment I or higher.
3. Slot Night Terror once it drops and lean on Shadowform-generating skills (Nether
Step, Sigil of Subversion, Mastermind tools).
4. Keep Profane Sentinel active so Vulnerable amplifies the amulet's Abyss bonus.
-= Skovos campaign route =-
1. Finish or skip into Lord of Hatred access, then follow the Skovos main quest chain
through the Mephisto finale.
2. Side content unlocks Charms, Horadric Cube recipes, and War Plans along the way.
3. Return to Sanctuary endgame hubs once level 70 skills are online, then rotate Pit,
Torment, and Echoing Hatred for Masterwork mats and uniques.
