Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss
Hints and Tips:
---------------

-= Save energy =-
In the early chapters, it is easy to waste energy because the game encourages you to
look closely, which takes energy. That does not mean you should stop looking at
things. It means you should stop checking things that already gave you an answer too
many times. Look at what seems important, take the results seriously, and then move
on. When you find power sources, do not treat them like extra money; treat them like
breathing room. With a full reserve, you can finish a chain of deductions in one go
instead of stopping and looking for fuel. The same rule goes for how things move and
how puzzles work. If you can clearly see the next answer in a room, stay there until
the logic is done. A lot of early problems come from only partially solving a scene,
leaving too soon, and forgetting which clue goes with which deduction.
-= Exploration Mode =-
If puzzles stall progress, toggle Exploration Mode at any time from the difficulty
menu. Key then adds extra hints on examined items without changing the core
investigation loop. It is a low-pressure way to spot missed angles before you burn
more energy on blind scans.
-= Rotate every clue =-
Every pickup can rotate in the inspection view. Turn objects over before you stash
them; hidden markings often sit on the back face. When more detail exists, the game
flags it, but you still need to spin the model yourself.
-= Vault and deductions =-
Open the Vault often. Deduction boards accept combinations of clues you already carry,
and wrong guesses carry no penalty. If a deduction rejects every item you own, you
still lack a field clue rather than picking the wrong theory.
-= Sonar and favourites =-
Analyze an object first, then tune sonar to its material frequency instead of pulsing
blindly. That filter finds lichen stimulants, documents, and electronics tucked in
clutter. Save useful frequencies to Favourites. Later chapters mix multiple
frequencies for puzzles that stay hidden until the blend is correct.
-= Corruption and endings =-
Corruption rises from cosmic exposure and certain puzzle solutions. Chapters 2, 3, 5,
and 6 offer high- and low-corruption branches that shape which endings unlock. Some
story corruption is unavoidable, and a few high-corruption picks still allow better
endings if you recover elsewhere. Prefer patient investigation over violent shortcuts
when a safer route is visible.
-= Evolutions and energy upgrades =-
Hidden side rooms hold evolutions that improve analysis and sonar, plus energy
upgrades that widen your reserve. Trophy hunters track all evolutions (Augmented
Agent) and all energy upgrades (Full Charge). Clear optional rooms before the chapter
finale push; early pickups reduce refuel stops in every later scene. Prioritize
upgrades that boost analysis uptime, sonar clarity, or energy capacity over cosmetic
rewards.
-= Trust your clues =-
Collectibles and documents do not bait you with fake data. If Key records an item, it
is either a real clue or deliberate world-building worth noting. Second-guessing valid
reads slows you more than the horror tone suggests.
Solutions:
----------
-= Investigation rhythm =-
1. Sweep a new room: rotate each important object once and log anything Key accepts.
2. Check the Vault before you leave; test deductions with clues already in inventory.
3. Analyze a reference item, set sonar to its frequency, then scan for matching
materials or lichen refills.
4. Finish the local deduction chain while energy is high; refill from power sources
before crossing into the next area.
5. Revisit side paths when a deduction fails, since upgrades and missing clues often
sit off the main corridor.
